Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2 November 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how NewsHub (www.newskenya.net) uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. Similar technologies (such as local storage) work in the same way and are covered by this policy.
The cookies we use
We group them into four categories. You decide which optional categories to allow, using the banner when you first visit or Cookie settings in the footer at any time.
| Category | Name | Provider | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | nhsess | First-party | Keeps you signed in, protects forms against forgery (CSRF) and counts a visit once. | Session |
| Strictly necessary | nh_consent | First-party | Remembers your cookie choices. | 6 months |
| Strictly necessary | nh_tick (local storage) | First-party | Stops the site asking the server to refresh news more than every 5 minutes. | Persistent, no personal data |
| Preferences | nh_theme | First-party | Remembers your light/dark display choice. | 1 year |
| Preferences | nh_wx | First-party | Remembers which Kenyan town’s weather you chose to show in the top bar. | 1 year |
| Analytics | none of its own | First-party | Anonymous page, device, browser, referrer and country counters sent to our own server by a small script. No identifier is stored in your browser and no IP address is kept. | — |
| Marketing | none in use | — | We do not currently set marketing cookies. This switch only controls scripts we might add in future. | — |
Your choices
- Necessary cookies are always on because the site cannot work without them.
- Preferences, Analytics and Marketing are off until you opt in. You can change or withdraw consent at any time; withdrawing is as easy as giving it.
- You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site (sign-in, checkout) may stop working.
- We honour the browser Global Privacy Control / Do Not Track signal by not pre-selecting any optional category.
Third-party cookies
By default we set no third-party cookies. If we enable a third-party service (for example an analytics tool or advertising pixel) it is loaded only after you accept the matching category, and it will be named in the table above.
