Rising demand for broadband services, the growth of mobile money, and other digital financial services boosted Kenya’s mobile subscriber base by nearly 10% to 78.4 million in 2025, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence.
For a country of around 60 million, the continued rise in subscriber numbers points to a market where consumers are widening their use of digital technologies, especially as more people adopt 5G. M-Pesa, the Safaricom-owned money transfer service, laid the groundwork for Kenya’s place as an African tech hub, but faster connections are set to open up new possibilities in the country: Kenyans bought more than a million 5G subscriptions in 2025, a 71.7% year-on-year increase.
