Elections pose next test for Venezuela

Interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez held a rare address last week in which she vowed to hold elections.

Venezuela’s next big test will be whether it can turn the Trump administration’s plan for elections into a genuine transition to democratic rule. And with the US midterms over soon, the issue will soon face renewed interest from Washington.

Interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez held a rare address last week in which she vowed to hold elections — an ambitious promise for a government still navigating political upheaval following the US’ arrest of President Nicolás Maduro in January.
